Shakespeare on the Vine Theater Company is producing a short engagement benefit performance this summer August 3-7 at 8 p.m. The impact of COVID-19 on this small theater troupe has been significant. Ticket sales from this summer’s benefit show will directly help the large-scale production of Shakespeare the company is planning for the summer of 2022. The show is a popular parody play titled The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abbreviated), written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield. The play originally premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1987, ran for a record 9 years in London’s West End and has maintained its popularity for the past 30 years.
The piece is a hilarious, irreverent, and fast-paced dash through the bard’s vast canon. Three crazy actors in tights weave their way through all of Shakespeare’s comedies, stories, tragedies and sonnets in 90 crazy minutes. Each performance promises to leave audiences breathless with laughter. Directed by Tara Kayton, the affair will feature the hilarious and talented Tyler Mattson, Clocky McDowell and Elyse Sharp. These three actors skillfully juggle props, costumes, and the entirety of Shakespeare’s canon during this play. For some instances of debauched and/or suggestive language or action, this piece is best suited for audiences 12 years and older.
