Senate Leader Atkins and Budget Chair Skinner Applaud Remarkable and Responsible Final Budget Passed by Legislative Assembly

SACRAMENTO — Pro Tempore Senate Speaker Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) and Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley), chair of the Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee, released the following statement on the budget final 2022-23 adopted by the Senate and Assembly today:

“With the budget the Senate passed today, we’re putting our state’s wealth to work, delivering $17 billion in relief to Californians facing higher prices at the gas pump and grocery store, and set aside record reserves for possible future downturns. Funding important climate and wildfire efforts, schools, broadband, transportation and other programs will benefit Californians for generations, as will our clear commitment to human rights and services. abortion following Roe and beyond.

This budget is as responsible as it is remarkable and is the product of the progressive income system put in place by the voters, the tireless work of the budget committees and subcommittees, and a strong partnership between the Governor, the Senate and the Assembly. California Democrats have been creating fair, focused, and sensible budgets for over a decade and this is one of the best.
