Tanya Tucker’s benefit show canceled, food bank donation still ongoing
It was more than a concert, it was a fundraiser for the Food Bank of Central New York. Persistent health issues have forced Tanya Tucker to cancel her Vernon Downs casino and hotel lounge, but owners continue to donate to help those in need.
Last minute hip surgery forced Tanya Tucker off the road for what was to be a very busy touring schedule for the last half of the year. She canceled all July shows after the doctor insisted that her hip fracture be treated. Then in early August, more prescribed rest canceled further concerts, making the scheduled August 19 date at Vernon Downs her return performance.
In an article on Face Book this weekend, Tanya said, “My Dr wants me to continue with more PT in order to fully recover.”
The original show scheduled at Vernon Downs was intended to raise funds for the Food Bank of Central New York. Casino owner Jeff Gural not only donated all ticket sales to the food bank, but matched the amount out of his own pocket. Even though the show is canceled and all ticket sales are refunded, Gural continues to donate and match the prize of 1,000 tickets at $ 20 apiece, for a total donation of $ 40,000.
although it’s disappointing that we can’t get the gig, we certainly understand and wish Ms Tucker a speedy recovery. Donating the money from all tickets sold is very important to me so I’m happy to do so.
Gural added: “He was hoping to have another benefit concert next summer.” All tickets purchased through Tickemaster.com will automatically be refunded by Ticketmaster. Tickets purchased at Vernon Downs can be returned for refund starting Monday, August 16 at 10 a.m. at the Vernon Rewards Club. You will need your tickets and sales receipt for refunds.
